Active-ByNature.org is an open education program for nature-based activities by MAVERICKS Academy. We create accessible online learning experiences and resources for outdoor activities, wellbeing, and environmental engagement.

Our introductory MOOC (Massive Open Online Learning) course, ABN_101 teaches the foundations of nature-based science for health and wellbeing. It is a free eLearning course open to the public (2 hours).

MAVERICKS Academy & Training Centre

MAVERICKS Academy is a specialised centre for active health education and training based in the Swiss Alps. As a family‑run academy, we bring a passion for the life sciences that connect nature, health, and human performance. You are welcome to visit our centre in person or join our online academy of accredited training courses, from beginner to professional level.

PROJECT LEAD

Jessica R. Christensen MSc, FCIMSPA(ch)

Jessica has spent two decades teaching, writing, and presenting on health, sports, and nature sciences. She is the founder of MAVERICKS Academy, a Chartered Fellow of CIMSPA with an MSc in Environment and Human Health, and has a background in media and communications.

Jessica is an author, topic specialist, and educator who works with cutting‑edge nature–human science for evidence synthesis, public communication, and applied practice. Her specialisation is the science that links humans and nature.

It is rooted in the life sciences of evolution, ecology, human health, and behaviour, and in how these interactions affect everyday life. In short, it is the science of how humans and nature interact – shaping the planet, the places we live, and us as individuals.

Supporting the World Land Trust

Next to helping you explore ways to live closer to nature, we also find it important to contribute to preserving natural habitats. We proudly support the World Land Trust’ BUY AN ACRE programme to help preserve endangered natural habitats. 

For every purchase made on The MAVERICKS Way, we donate 5% of the sale towards buying an Acre of protected land. Every £100 GBP donation will purchase one acre of habitat and protect it in perpetuity. The BUY AN ACRE initiative currently supports land purchases in Argentina, Brazil and Kenya.

  • 10 Acres Saved in 2022
